Japanese Jujitsu, Arnis de Mano

The Oak Mountain Jujitsu Club practices a form of the Japanese martial art of jujitsu. It is an eclectic martial art with roots in several forms of jujitsu, judo and Japanese Karate, yet it also contains elements of wrestling, boxing and Brazilian Jui-Jitsu. Our comprehensive style includes throws, joint locks, strikes, submission holds, ground work, comealongs and emergency escapes needed in life threatening situations. Our main emphasis is on mastering practical methods of self-defense in response to armed and unarmed attacks that might occur in a real world environment. However, improved self-awareness, coordination and conditioning are equally important benefits obtained from studying our style of martial art. We do compete in tournaments on a limited basis. We also study Arnis de Mano. Arnis de Mano is a Filipino martial art that begins with a weapon in the hand and progresses to empty handed techniques. Students learn that the weapon is a true extension of the hand by being able to use any weapon that is available at the time, since the striking patterns are the same regardless of the weapon. Students will become incredibly well rounded and comfortable with their surroundings and shall adapt well to most any situation. Anyone is invited to join and train in our friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The Club is open to new members with no previous martial arts experience and to those coming from other styles of martial arts. It is important to note that our focus is Christ centered and our goal is to strengthen students both physically, mentally and spiritually.

We believe that with proper knowledge and instruction, martial arts training can be used as a tool to stimulate growth and development in the Lord Jesus Christ and proclaim the Gospel. We also believe that God can use properly trained, Christ-centered martial artists to fight His battles on Earth. Accordingly, we subscribe to a set of tenets that we are committed to developing in our lives, through our training, teaching, and practice. We attempt to remain loyal to these tenets (ideals) as Samurai were to the Code of Bushido and Medieval Knights were to the Code of Chivalry. We call ourselves Christian martial artists not because we are martial artists and also Christian, but because we subscribe to the following tenets (ideals) in our training, teaching, and practice of martial arts. We do this regardless of system, style, or rank. ***Salvation and Eternal Life*** We personally accept salvation and eternal life. Because of sin, people were separated and cut off from God; the only way back to Him and eternal life is through Christ. Jesus Christ is the only truth, way, and life; He is the only true Master who ever walked the earth. ***Physical-Mental-Spiritual*** We love God with our bodies, minds, and souls. Like a soldier physically, mentally, and spiritually prepares to protect a nation, and her freedoms and beliefs, a Christian martial artist physically, mentally, and spiritually prepares to love God and do His will on earth. ***Love for our Neighbors*** We love our neighbors as we love ourselves. While the focus is on our neighbors, it is important to realize that we cannot love our neighbors if we do not love ourselves (body, mind, and soul). When we love ourselves, we are whole; when we do not love ourselves, we are dysfunctional, unable to love others as God intended. ***The Fruit of the Spirit*** We produce the Fruit of the Spirit. The Fruit of the Spirit is God's expression of love in our lives and relationships. When the Holy Spirit is flowing freely within us, we naturally produce Fruit. When the Holy Spirit is blocked because of selfish, ego-driven ambition, we cut ourselves off from God, no longer bearing good fruit. ***The Warrior*** We become great warriors. God calls us to protect ourselves and others from threat and harm. It is better to avoid a single conflict than to win 1000 battles; in other words, force is only allowed when absolutely critical. We are committed to protect and defend the souls of all people by bringing them to our one and only Savior, Jesus Christ. ***The Christian Black Belt*** Christian black belts are equipped to bring all of the above ideals together and teach the Gospel through a Christian martial arts ministry. They are disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ and work for God by using their martial arts talents and every other gift that the Lord has bestowed them with. ***The Great Commission*** We are God's helpers. We go to all the corners of the earth and allow Him to use us to bring the lost sheep home. We do what we can to help people come to know Jesus Christ by submitting to Him and His will for our lives.
